Maison Margiela Haute Couture Spring Summer 2019

Maison Margiela – Haute Couture – SS19

Designer John Galliano’s Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection statement said ‘Decadence is a cyclical circumstance moving with the turns of the centuries,’ a further explanatory statement read ‘Revolution: a desire for change. Maison Margiela renders the decadence of our time and examines if inverted excess could lead to a new appetite for restraint.’

The set had colourful graffiti on the ceiling and a mirrored floor. The graffiti was also mirrored in the patterned clothes coming down the runway.

Women’s Fashion Week – New York – Spring Summer 2019

Here are some of the best highlights from New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2019. My particular favourites of all the shows were Tom Ford and Tibi.

Tom Ford

The show consisted of a women’s and men’s collection, colour palettes for the collections were nudes, warm whites and powdery pastels. Stand out looks were tailored blazers and sculptural leather jackets paired with lace and chiffon skirts and black and deconstructed silk satin smoking suits.

Michael Kors Collection

The collection span was from vacation to evening soirée’. Looks included a tie-dye sweatshirt in cashmere with a matching blanket, slip dresses, sarongs and accented blazers with palm tree–shadow prints and colourful zebra and leopard prints. There were also metallic brocade dresses and jumpsuits.

A super chic collection, there were long shirt dresses without embellishments. Relaxed suit trousers tied at the front or on the side. Pastel and soft colours were in delicate tones of pink, yellow and green.

Kate Spade

The show exuded a 70s spirit and sensuality. This was Nicola Glass’s debut collection for Kate Spade. A graphic floral pattern on a silk dress opened the show. There were also playful pieces with rubber rain macs and poppy coloured knee-high boots.

The collection consisted of semi-sheer maxi dresses, layered dresses and fringed leopard-print jackets. There were also exceptionally crafted mini skirts and waist-skimming biker jackets. The inspiration for the collection came from rock chicks Anita Pallenberg and supermodel Veruschka.

The collection consisted of leather mini skirts and silver metallic cutaway-detail dresses paired with shimmering cycling shorts. Fringed crystal net detail embroidered on to a blazer and biker shorts worn with a green tailored jacket – This is a label to watch.

Men’s Fashion Week – Milan – Spring/Summer 2019

Here are some of the key collections from the Milan menswear shows for spring/summer 2019.

Shorts were the main highlight from the Prada show. They were paired with and zipped necked tops and blazers in colours that clashed. Over-the-shoulder handbags were carried by the models who walked with confident purpose.

Neil Barrett

Yellow, brown and florals featured on lightweight trenches and sleek Hawaiian shirts. Also shown were leather short sleeve shirts. Shorts came as separates or as part of a matching floral two piece.

Familiar sports looks came out with models wearing loose fitting shirts and shorts. Many outfits mismatched with baseball sweaters and golf socks. A very casual relaxed show that was dubbed the ‘Marni Olympics’.

The show took references from the 90s, especially with bucket hats with anorak and bomber style jackets. The predominate colours were black, brown and red. The FF Logo was printed more chunkier on shirts, trousers and jackets. a very cool luxe collection with a dark edge.

There was the return for the power suit but with a fresh reworked feel, placed over denim trousers and T-shirts with Versace printed headlines. Floral prints were mixed with wide legged jeans and mixed with neon’s. The collection was also shown along with a contemporary women’s collection.

Ermenegildo Zegna

The show was staged in an absolutely stunning location, outside the Palazzo Mondadori building, with a mirrored catwalk. The colours for the collection were pinks, yellows, blues and earth tones. There were tailored, jackets, bombers, parkas and florals.
